Spyglass Miniatures: Babarian, Succubus, and Half Elf

Spyglass Miniature are sculpted by Steve Buddle (who also sculpts for Dark Age and GW) and sold through the CoolMiniOrNot Shop. They cost 5.99$ each and I think that is a fair price.

The figures

The Babarian, the Succubus, and the Half Elven Archer are the first miniatures from Spyglass. Here are the official paintjobs, done by Steve Buddle himself. Quite impressive!

The Design:

Steve B. is quickly turning into one of my favorite sculptors. His style has quite a few things in common with i-Kore's Kew White, though the Spyglass figs are a little more elegant, and Steve hasn't adopted the "big hands syndrome" that you seen on many i-Kore figs. The desing of the figures are based on simple smooth shapes, which gives the painter lots of oppertunities to be creative with freehand or blending.

The desings are also quite tough without the very fragile joints you can sometimes find on other companies' figures.

Casting Quality:

Those of you that bought the CMON2 amazon might be worried that the Spyglass Miniatures have the same rough texture, that is not the case! The casting is good, with smooth surfaces and not too obvious moldlines.

Steve told me that the Spyglass figs are made of a lot of tin and about 2% lead. They are quite hard, a bit like GW's metal. The quality of the metal seems good and it doesn't appear to be brittle like Rachkam's

All of the figures are in one piece and therefore real easy and quick to put together.

The Bases:

Spyglass Miniatures are based on the large round bases also used by Dark Age and Warmachine.

I think these bases are quite elegant and there is room for lots of basing material on them.

Conclusion:

Overall, these figures are lovely. Both desing and quality are great, and I'm sure they will be fun to paint.

I really hope Steve sculpts some more soon :)
