Shadowforge Miniatures

Shadowforge Miniatures is an Australian miniature company that specializes in female miniatures. They have several different figure lines including fantasy football teams (bunnies anyone?) and manga miniatures. I got my Shadowforge figs from Artemis Blacks in the UK for about 3£ (5.5$) pr fig.

The figures

I own seven shadowforge miniatures; Yuka (my paintjob) and Tori from their manga line:

Sabrina and Red Sonya from their Tiny Toons line:

Juliana Jones and Lara C. Jones from their Female Character line:

and finally a limited edition 2002 Christmas Miniature with was quite expensive (10£/18$):

The Design:

The designs of the figures are quite varied. Some of the older ones seem quite primitive and I don't plan on getting those, but most of the manga/toons stuff and some of the female characters are quite good. The bunny and elf teams are also quite nice and funny. It's also good to see a manufacturer with the courage to do something out of the ordinary!

The sculpts are nice and simple with clean lines. Very nice to paint! The size is 32mm so their are a little bigger than many other figs (except Confrontation)

Casting Quality:

The cast of the figures I have is quite good. There are moldlines, but they are not hard to remove, and the surface of the figures is smooth.

Shadowforge Miniatures contain lead. I don't quite know what I think about that. On one hand it makes the metal easy to work with, but on priciple I'm against lead being put in anything you touch with your fingers. Don't eat them....

The Bases:

Apparently shadowforge makes both metal and plastic bases. Juliana and Lara came with ordinary round plastic slottabases, but my other girls were supplied with large, round, flat (and ugly) metal bases.

I just don't know what I'm going to use them for....

Conclusion:

Overall, I like Shadowforge. Not all of the figures are equally great, but they have some real gems in their range. I will probably be buying more, when I've painted the ones I already have.
