Mjolnir Haxelfrei, Mercenary Ogre

Painted February 2004

I'm not quite sure how long it took me to paint this guy, but I think it was more than a month. I have serious trouble painting large "minis".

I tried to go for a more natural look with metallics and subtle highlights. Of course it ended up looking pretty much like it always does! I guess I shouldn't fight it.

The metallics were done with i-Kore paints. The Bronze/Brass paint is pretty good, but the steel colours are kinda awful. They are more like washes with metallic bits in them, so if your basecoat is black the results will turn out rather dark. I've found that rust effects are much harder to do on metallics than on NMM, because the metallics are shiny and hard to control. For this mini I used GW Dark Flesh and Vermin Brown and Vallejo Smoke for the rust effects, and i-Kore Metal Wash for the bronze.
