Gabriella, Female Vampire Painted March 2003 This is one of my favorite Reaper figures, definately my favorite of their warmaidens. I though it would be really nice to paint her like a vampire in a deep red armour. I found out red can still give me trouble. I primed her black and painted all the armour plates with GW's Scab Red. The coverage was quite poor so I had to use lots of layers. I then highlighted with Red Gore. A lot of people don't like to highlight with Red Gore because it's very close to Scab Red, but I think it works well for me. The armour looked nice and clean after that, but there wasn't a lot of depth. I don't like highlighting Red Gore/Scab Red with Blood Red. It always turns out looking wrong, so this time I used a Foundry Colour: Bright Red Shade. That particular paint isn't very good. It seems to be a lot of filler and very little pigment. I had to paint lots of layer to get the coverage I wanted and I managed to totally overhighlight the entire armour. After that I had to shade with both Scab Red and Red Gore to get a look I liked. I finished the armour by glazing with a few layers of dilluted red ink. The sword also gave me trouble. I had use that particular NMM method before on a zombie, but for some reason it looked better on him. Ah well, I think it's ok, just not excatly as I wanted.... She was based a long time ago by my boyfriend. We were inspired by Sintricat's basing work and desided we wanted to make a scene with water. I imagine she is a vampire grieving her lost humanity (or something philosophical like that.) The rock is made from polystyrene and the water was sculpted in putty, painted, and a layer of Water Effects was applied.
