Box #1 - Dark Sword Miniatures
Dark Sword Miniatures is a new miniature company producing fantasy figures based on Larry Elmore's illustrations.
This is their first release - a boxed set with 6 miniatures. I ordered the special edition box which was signed,
limited to 99, and included a gold plated version of one of the figures.
1. The box:

The box is super cool. The front is a Larry Elmore painting,
the back has little pics of the figures painted by Matt Verzani as well as other illustrations with the characters from the box.
My box was even cooler cos it was signed :D
2. The figures:
Here are the official pics of the figures:

and here is a pic of the contents of my box (the guy with the rapier is hiding between the drow sorceress):

2a. Casting Quality:
Overall the casting quality is excellent. The best I've seen in ages:

I don't quite know what kind of metal the figs are made of, but I'm pretty sure there is no lead in them.
The quality of the metal seems good and it doesn't appear to be brittle like Rachkam's
All figure except the Green Witch are made of multiple pieces and need to be glued together.
Instructions of doing this is included in the boxed set. I really like that.
Some of the parts look quite fragile and I'm a little worried about having to send some of them.
2b. The design:
The proportions of the figures are very realistic, classic fantasy, not at all like GW or Rackham.
They are all based on very large metal bases.
Generally I'm a big fan of slottabases, but I actually quite like these metal bases.
They are very detailed and good for the stability of the figures.

All the figures are sculpted by Dennis Mize. I have a few figured he did for WOTC and I like his style.
The faces - especially the female ones - are very beautiful.
My favorite of the figs in this set is the chick in platemail and the centaur girl.
Both have very sweet faces and good poses. The drow sorceress is also really good, though a bit more flat and static.
I like the girl figures more than the boy figures, probably just because I like painting female figs more.
Overall I would say that this box is a must have for any fan of classic fantasy. I can't wait to paint mine :)
