Comequest 2003 Confrontation Tournament
I participated in the Confrontation part of the ComeQuest 2003 Tournament.
I had a great time and got to play lots of games, so I thought I would share :)
The tournament had about 160 players but most of them played Warhammer Fantasy Battle or 40k.
There were eight Confrontation players with the following armies:
3 x Wolfen
2 x Barbarians
1 x Orcs
1 x Tir Na Bor Dwarfs
1 x Griffons
Each player had to make a 550 point army lists and before each battle we had to pick 400 points (+ half the points of the cheapest figure).
Here is my 550 points army list (don't kill me if I've made any mistakes):
- Agyar L'inflexible - 118
- Irix La Sibylle - 87
with Chuchotement Troublant - 10
- Lykai L'affranchi - 80
with Le Mousquet Du Loup - 8
- Predateur Wolfen (with two swords) - 55
- Grave Guardian - 41
- Vestale Sacree - 38
- Wolfen Warrior (the one with str 10) - 32
- Wolfen with Crossbow (the one with Haressement) - 31
- 2 x Wolfen Hunter (with Javelins) - 48

I'd only brought Irix because she was painted. I didn't intend to use her. In my games I used two different lists:
One without Irix, the Vestale and Lykai's Gun and one without Irix and the Grave Guardian.
Before each game each player picked up to 3 pieces of terrain and placed them on the table.
The other player could then move them D6 cm. After that each player drew two mission objective cards and kept one of them.
After each turn we checked if one of the armies were below ½ of the starting points (broken).
If that was the case, the other player had won.
If both armies were broken in the same turn, the winner was the player who had completed his/her mission.
Game 1 - Wolfen Vs Wolfen
My first game was against Jack's Wolfen. He had a lot more figures on the table than I had and that scared me alot!
His army was something like:
- The Watcher
- Grave Guardian
- 2 x Wolfen with Crossbow (the two different versions)
- The same predator as I was using
- 4 x Wolfen Warrior
- 2 x Rependant
For this game I picked a characterful piece of 40k terrain. I think it was some kind of bunker.....

I also picked a forrest and a rock. Jack chose a huge temple and a wall.
In the first turn we were both a bit defensive and tried to bring our troops into position.
The next turn was quite fun. I killed his predator and he killed mine!

At that point Agyar and the Grave Guardian where tearing his right flank apart while he was crushing my left flank.
Fortunately for me, the troops on my right flank weren't very expensive.

In turn 3 I charged the Watcher with Agyar and the Grave Guardian and killed him. Unfortunately I still hadn't killed enough figures to break him.

In turn 4 I had to destroy his camp (it was represented by a piece of card in the middle of his deployment zone).
I didn't succeed. Instead Agyar was killed by a Rependant! Fortunately Jack didn't succeed in his objective either (he had to kill my cheapest figure in turn 4).
The result was a draw.
The Grave Guardian was the puppy of the match because he crushed a flank together with Agyar and avoided dying.
The two hunters should be ashamed of themself. As usual they did nothing at all.
Game 2 - Wolfen Vs Keltois
I must say I was quite surprised to see Tommy's army. It was probably the smallest 400 points Keltois army ever
(being a student and new to Confrontation, Tommy hadn't been able to get a bigger army).
Tommy's army:
- Baal the Centaur (hero with a nasty axe)
- Enoch the Elementalist with a few spells
- 2 x Hunters
- 3 x Fiannas
I was quite happy to avoid a horde army:

This was quite a short game. Tommy placed a wall covering most of the table to cripple my ranged attacks.
It didn't help much because I was able to engage Baal with my Vestale and Agyar in turn 2. Agyar wounded him and got a double six.
After that his army didn't have much close combat power and I broke it. I must say that Tommy played a good game.
Especially since he was a new player. It was also really impressive that he had already painted his army!.
Agyar was the puppy of the match because he killed Baal with a double six.
The Grave Guardian should be ashamed of himself. He wasn't even in the game, but when we were done playing, he dicided to use his leap ability to jump out of my transportation box and onto the floor breaking his arm loose and chipping the paintjob :(
Game 3 - Wolfen Vs Tir Na Bor Dwarfs
I haven't met a lot of female gamers before, so it was quite cool that we were two girls playing this match. I have never seen the dwarf army in action so I didn't know much about them.
Kirsti's Tir Na Bor army looked something like this:
- Pilzenbhir (ambidextrous hero!)
- Uren's Son
- 2 x Dwarf Cannons
- A Sorcerer in a rollerchair with a spell that could give other dwarfs extra dice
- 2 x Thermal Warriors
- a little guy with a hammer
I tried to place a little terrain to protect myself from her shooting while still being able to advance and shoot.

Turn 1 was pretty cool. The Crossbow wolfen managed to hit one of the cannons and got a double six!
In turn two there was close combat on both flanks. The one on my lefs side looked pretty good though I would need some time to kill all the hard boiled dwarfs!
The one on the right flank looked excellent with three wolfen in CC with Uren's son, but I couldn't even hit him.
In the next couple of turns I destroyed most of her right flank. Unfortunately Agyar and the puppies didn't have much succes.
With four defense dice they still didn't managed to block the son's one attack. He boosted his strength to 18 (yikes) and killed Agyar.

Fortunately her army was broken by that point and I won the game.
The Crossbow Wolfen was the puppy of the match because he killed the dwarf cannon in turn one and wounded a few other dwarfs.
Agayr should be ashamed of himself. He didn't do anything except getting himself killed.
Game 4 - Wolfen Vs Wolfen
Jack again! I was getting a little worried since our last game had been pretty close.
He had changed his army a bit:
- The Watcher
- Predator
- 2 x Grave Guardian
- 4 x Wolfen Warrior
- 2 x Crossbow Wolfen
Again this was a really close game. By the end of turn three he just needed to kill 5 points to break my army.
Fortunately for me, I managed to charge and kill the Watcher in turn 4 (he already had a serious wound from shooting) without loosing any of my puppies and I won the game.

The hunters were the puppies of the match because they stopped his advance on one flank for several turns.
None of my wolfen should be ashamed of themselves. They all did a good job :)
Game 5 - Wolfen Vs Griffons
I was hoping I wouldn't have to face the griffons. Their armour, shooting, and spells really scare me.
Ivan's army was something like this:
- Arkhos with a nasty scepter
- Melkior with a spell that boosted friendly troops' attack and strength
- 3 x Fusilier
- 2 x Spearman
- 3 x Templars
- Thallion

I was really stupid in this game. I had far too much respect for his fusiliers.
We also later found out we had been playing his fire spell wrong. It gave a bonus to attack OR strength ... not both.
When I finally made it into close combat with his troops, they were boosted and Arkhos' scepter gave me -1 to all my stats. I lost the game because he broke my army before i broke his
(Even though I could have done it if my crossbow puppy had killed two templars).
Lykai was the puppy of the match because he managed to kill or wound a couple of the armoured griffons.
The Wolfen Warrior should be ashamed of himselves because he got his butt kicked by a fusilier in close combat. He charged, won initiative, didn't hit a thing, failed his defense roll, and took a critical wound.
Game 6 - Wolfen Vs Keltois
Sune's army was a horde style barbarian army and that scared me alot.
The army was something like:
- Gwen
- Fianna Totem Bearer
- Fianna Musician
- 2 x Fianna
- 2 x Centaur
- Spasm Warrior
- 2 x Fury Warrior
- The druid character that's sitting on a rock
- 2 x Hunter
- Barbarian Giant
The terrain was pretty open even though we counted the hills as difficult terrain.
I tried to position my shooters in a good position and hoped that Lykai's gun would
allow him to take out a few of the low resilience troops before they could get close.

I was really lucky in this game. Sune failed a lot of fear test on 1's, his spasm warrior just didn't want to turn into the usuful incarnation and his spell (which could force one of my figures to do nothing for a turn) always hit one of the hunters.
By the end of turn 4 he only had the two hunters left and I had only lost a hunter.

The Vestale was the puppy of the match because she managed to kill lots of barbarians and even succeeded in counter attacking a few times.
The Predator and Wolfen Warrior should be ashamed of themselves. It took them three turns to kill a seriously wounded Gwen and they even took a few wounds in the process.
Overall I mamaged to win the tournament closely followed by Jack. I had tons of fun and learned a lot. I will definately be back next year (with a fully painted army).
Here are a few pics I took when my own games ended quickly:
